The candidate will be involved with UPS, emergency diesel generator, LAN room/data center and fire protection projects along with mechanical system projects (e.g. HVAC, oil/water separators) requiring electrical support. Strong oral and written communication skills are required for managing projects, making presentations and project conflict resolution. Must have a BS in Engineering. Computer skills are essential. Professional Engineer license preferred.


Position requires a valid driver’s license for travel within service territory. Must be able to work in substation/switching station areas. Must be able to crawl and walk between electrical equipment. This position requires walking indoors, outdoors and ladder climbing.


ASSOCIATE ENGINEER (1H): Candidate must have at least 2 years of work experience, with a minimum of 1 year of applicable engineering experience.

ENGINEER (2L): Candidates must have at least 3 years applicable work experience.

Senior Engineer (2H): Must have minimum 8 years experience in the design, engineering, application of power plants and commercial analysis or operation of power systems, and medium voltage substation.

Responsibilities: Will evaluate project requirements; prepare scopes of work, design criteria, construction packages, economic analysis, authorization and appropriation funding requests and engineering specifications. Coordinate projects with users and construction and provide field support. Monitor and report on project status, schedules and costs. Interface with or direct project work teams of discipline engineers and designers. Address outage, safety and environmental constraints as required. A Bachelors Degree in Engineering is required. A thorough understanding of plant electric system design, construction, operations, maintenance, testing or analysis in the utility industry, oil & gas industry or marine propulsion is required. Experience with transformers (up to 120,000kVA), switchgear, breakers and power cables (up to 69kV), generators (up to 230,000kVA), motors, MCC’s, power panels, buss-work, or electric transmission is required. A working knowledge of equipment sizing and analysis calculations, life cycle management, protection schemes, UPS, and dielectric fluids is required. Knowledge of State and Federal regulations affecting electric operations is required. Knowledge of industry standards and process safety measures is required. Either the possession of or ability to obtain an in-depth knowledge of Company and Industry codes, standards, procedures and specifications is required.

Position requires a valid driver’s license. Must be able to travel to various Company work locations within the five boroughs. Review and maintain System Descriptions, One-lines and other design basis documentation. Generate detailed reports and presentations to inform and guide Central Engineering capital planning and all levels of management. Provide engineering support to Station management. Represent the Section or Company on committees working on various issues. Establish and maintain effective lines of communication among various internal and external organizations.

The positions require working in and around substations that are under construction and/or in service. The positions involve working around electrical equipment, working indoors and outdoors, and ladder climbing. Must be able to wear the requisite PPE. A driver's license is required for travel within service territory. Candidates must be available to work additional hours, as needed, for system emergencies or equipment outage schedules.


Responsibilities: Selected candidates will be responsible for providing the R&D, application, design engineering, specification preparation, purchase, construction and maintenance support for major substation electrical equipment (HV and MV circuit breakers, power transformers, MV switchgear, capacitor banks, gas-insulated substations (GIS), instrument transformers, dc systems, test sets, etc.). This includes preparation of electrical equipment specifications, technical analysis of bid proposals, review of all manufacturers’ designs and drawings, factory and field inspection, and furnishing of technical expertise to the Construction and Operating Departments. In addition, they will provide technical guidance and resolve problems during substation equipment installation, maintenance, and repair or replacement of equipment. For problems related to equipment installation, failures, and equipment maintenance, candidates will provide field support by responding to system and equipment problems; will perform root-cause failure analysis to determine the cause of the failure or problem, whether the failure or problem is due to engineering, design, or manufacturing deficiencies or due to system or operational conditions; and will make determinations about equipment failure trending. The successful candidates will issue test procedures and determine whether problematic equipment should be repaired or replaced. Candidates will respond to technical questions in a timely manner and monitor and evaluate operation and maintenance for reliability, safety, and efficiency. Candidates will coordinate support from other Central Engineering groups in responding to emergencies and to service and maintenance problems.

Coordinate engineering evaluations and obtain concurrence of: proposed locations for future substations, expansions capability, and order of magnitude cost analyses, from the Advanced Planning Project Team. Work with Transmission Planning to perform feasibility studies for generation and transmission interconnection agreements, and on the NYISO interconnection requests and Class Year projects. Perform feasibility studies for new substation capital work including installing new switchgear, transformers, and feeder positions. Assist with development of the rolling Five Year Capital Budget as needed. Transition selected preliminary substations expansion and/or interconnection plans to relevant project implementation organization(s) as required.

The candidates must have a proven record of accomplishment in providing engineering support for various types of commercial building/yard mechanical systems: heating ventilation and air conditioning systems (i.e. chillers, air handlers, cooling towers, boilers), controls and Building Management Systems, pumping, piping & valves, pipe supports; tanks and pressure vessels, heat exchangers, fire protection, oil water separators, emergency diesel generators, etc. The candidate must be especially well versed in the NYS & NYC Building Codes, ASME B & PV Codes, and NFPA and be able to perform fluid flow/pressure drop, heat transfer, pipe, valve & tank sizing calculations and select mechanical equipment. The candidate will be involved with facility project design, operational & maintenance support, root cause investigation of incidents, system inspections. The candidate will also programmatically assess systems, respond to engineering support requests (ESR’s) and establish mechanical programs for equipment replacement and upgrades. A Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering is required for this position; Masters Degree and Professional Engineers License are preferred. Senior Engineering candidates must have 8 to 10 years experience in the profession, including experience in the areas indicated above and in the application of mechanical engineering principles, while Engineering candidates must have 5 to 8 years experience. The candidates must have the ability to function in a higher-level management position when delegated. Must demonstrate the proven ability to function as an expert Company witness when necessary.


Must be available to work in all weather conditions and on off shift hours, as needed. Will be required to make site visits as needed and may involve climbing, working in basements, tight spaces, roofs, etc. Valid driver's license is required.

Responsibilities: Candidates will be required to engineer and design projects to support the Capital and Operations & Maintenance budgets of Facilities which includes the buildings and yards of various Service Centers and Commercial Buildings, along with 4 Irving Place and TLC. SENIOR ENGINEER (2H): Requires 8 years of applicable engineering work experience including engineering projects, planning, and utility system design. PE license preferred.
ENGINEER (2L): Requires 3 years of applicable engineering work experience including engineering projects, planning, and utility system design.
ASSOCIATE ENGINEER (1H): Requires 2 years of work experience to include 1year of applicable engineering work and participation in projects, planning and system design.

MS degree preferred. A working knowledge of auxiliary systems and associated equipment such as fuel delivery systems, high energy piping systems, steam turbines, and generators is preferred. In addition a working knowledge of inspection, repair, and environmental processes such as Non Destructive Testing, welding techniques, including inspections and emissions control is also preferred. Knowledge of State and Federal regulations affecting steam plant operations is preferred. Position requires a valid driver’s license. Must be able to travel to various Company work locations within the five boroughs.
