Qualifications: Construction is seeking highly motivated individuals to join its team as Chief Construction Inspector in the Public Improvement section. The successful candidate must possess strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills. Must understand the vital importance of teamwork, communication and promote a positive work ethic to support our Corporate Mission and Values with emphasis on safety and environmental compliance as it relates to Public Improvement interference and construction. Candidate must be well organized and flexible to handle multiple concurrent project assignments to meet contract deadlines as required. Must have extensive construction or engineering experience with underground and or experience with the overhead system. Candidate must be able to interpret relevant drawings and specifications. Conducting adversarial contract negotiations and interacting with various municipal NYC and NYS agencies, Port Authority and NYC Transit Authority along with their contractors is required. Working knowledge of COMPASS, and Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint is required. Bachelorís degree (engineering preferred) and 3 years work experience in the construction management field or H.S. diploma/GED and 5 years work experience in the construction management field is required.


Responsibilities: The Chief Construction Inspector (CCI) ensures that safe work practices are followed and the environment is fully protected in accordance with company policy and government regulations. The CCI plans, directs and supervises the activities of Inspectors and Construction Representatives, inspecting the construction work for borough and private contractors. Maintains, protects and supports the integrity of Con Edison utility systems within the project limits. Develops and coordinates the implementation of company contractor, and company work force construction work to relocate or alter company facilities in order to avoid or minimize interferences to the public contract work. Interface with governmental and outside agencies. Ensures that all safety and environmental procedures are followed as required to contractor and company forces. Plans, develops and implements interference contract items or methodologies, and interference related capital relocation contract plans. Implements Code 753 on all projects. Conducts interference negotiations with borough and private contractors to minimize costs. Supervises the preparation of field notes. Supervises and performs technical reviews on all COMPASS and PMS contractor invoicing. Analyzes, monitors, tracks, and accrues project related costs. Interface with Section Managers and Budget Analysts regarding project costs and related change orders. Performs on the job training of new procedures including newly assigned inspection personnel. Implements Company Code of Conduct and the EEO policy particularly when dealing contractors, contract payments and governmental agencies. Responds to and acts as incident commander on damages or environmental and safety incidents involving construction projects. Establish and maintain effective daily communications with field inspection personnel, EH&S, the Section Manager, and company support Organizations.

This position requires walking, standing, and climbing. Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to municipal constructions sites and electric, gas, and steam company facilities. Work in the office environment requires sitting, bending, and extensive computer work. A valid driverís license is required. Use of a personal vehicle to travel between work locations within the company service territory is required. Reimbursement for use of personal vehicle is available through company mileage procedure.

Qualifications: Construction Management is seeking a dedicated professional who is highly motivated, resourceful and articulate to join the Planning Section as a Field Operations Planner. The successful candidate must have demonstrated a high work ethic, possess strong decision-making skills, ability to work independently, flexibility to handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines. Must promote a positive work ethic in support of our Corporate Values and Mission, and be committed to environmental excellence and safety in the workplace. Must possess excellent oral, written communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with personnel at all levels (inside and outside the Company).

An Associate's degree in Engineering or related area with a minimum of 5 years experience in construction related activities is required. In lieu of a degree a HS/GED diploma with a minimum of 8 years of construction related experience is required. Candidates must have a thorough knowledge of construction work practices, contract specifications and procedures, scheduling, estimating methods and the ability to interpret relevant drawings and specifications. The position requires excellent computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Project.

Bachelorís degree and 3 years construction/engineering experience working in Gas Operations is preferred. Knowledge of company systems such as ECS, IMS, Visions, Byers, Projectwise, Work Manager and the Contract Administration & Trenching Manuals are also preferred.

Responsibilities: The Field Operations Planner will ensure that safe work practices are followed and that the environment is fully protected in accordance with company policy and government regulations. Provide technical review of Gas and Electric layouts for constructability. Conduct field visits and address conditions which could result in construction delays. Act as the direct point of contact with the Work and Resource Management group. Identify and obtain any special permits required and other design submission to address bridges, railroad crossings, New York State Department of Transportation jurisdiction and environmental issues. Determine the impact that work will have on communities to allow time for preparation of plans to reduce potential problems, and recommend alternatives to engineering. Develop detailed schedules for construction and review them with Engineering, Operations and others. Finalize schedules and review the key tasks with the inspection forces and others. Assist with the resolution of field problems and communicate lessons learned. Monitor progress of work and reports status at project meetings. Support Construction Operations with tracking and achieving goals. Establish an effective line of communication with senior management of organizations being served by the groupís construction activities to ensure shared goals are met. Act as a liaison for the Company with governmental agencies and community groups as needed. Comply with the company Equal Employment policies and instructions.

Position requires a valid driverís license. Use of a personal vehicle to be used to travel to work locations within the company service territory is required. Reimbursement for use of personal vehicle is available through company mileage procedure. Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to construction sites and electric, gas and steam facilities. May be required to work various schedules including weekends. Must be able to respond to emergencies and work in extreme hot and cold climates.
