Qualifications: Selected candidates must have a minimum of a high school diploma or GED and a minimum of five years gas-related work experience in Gas Distribution and/or Gas Construction, with extensive experience in the investigation and classification of gas leaks. Or a minimum AAS degree with 3 years of gas related work experience in GDS or construction is preferred. These candidates must be proficient in the proper testing and operation of natural gas detection equipment. In addition, the selected candidates must be able to read and interpret gas, steam, and electric mains and services plates. Must demonstrate proficiency in the use and operation of computers. Selected candidates must have good oral and written communication skills and must successfully pass a written test and an interview for the Electrical Technician (ET) title. These candidates will also be expected to pass a written and practical examination for promotion into the Senior Electrical Technician (SET) title, within 18 months of obtaining the Electrical Technician title. Duties include conducting walking and mobile surveys of gas mains, services, stations and plants using gas General Mains plates, BYERS mapping software, Mains & Services Plates and Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD)/Gas Inspection System (GIS) computer system. Demonstrate proficiency with Detecto Pak Infrared device (DPIR), Gas Measuring Instruments (GMI) and various gas leak investigation tools. Additional duties include conducting gas leak investigations, classification of gas leaks, documenting surveys and leak investigations and inspection of gas piping for atmospheric corrosion. Candidates selected for positions will also be crossed trained for assignments in Corrosion Control. Duties in Corrosion Control include, but are not limited to, taking pipe-to-soil readings and performing pipeline mark outs.




Responsibilities:


Physical Requirements: This job requires extensive walking, climbing, standing and the ability to push/pull/lift equipment and materials 40-60 lbs. in weight. Candidate must be able to work in various weather conditions (e.g., cold, heat, rain, confined spaces) and must be medically qualified to wear a respirator. A valid driver's license is required for this position.

Must be well-organized, detail oriented, flexible to handle multiple assignments, and meet deadlines. Must possess strong oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of Company procedures and policies as well as State and Federal regulations affecting gas operations is required. Computer literacy (including MS Office and mainframe systems) is required. Either the possession of or ability to obtain an in-depth knowledge of codes, standards, procedures and specifications is required. Must also be available for emergency work 24/7 as required by system conditions. SENIOR ENGINEER (2H): Requires 8 years of applicable engineering work experience including engineering projects, planning, and gas system design or 6 years of operations experience. Strong leadership skills including experience in direct supervision, and the ability to positively manage and motivate others is required. Additionally, strong computer skills and familiarity with the Incident Command System are required. ENGINEER (2L): Requires 5 years of applicable engineering work experience or 3 years of operations experience. Strong leadership skills including experience in direct supervision, and the ability to positively manage and motivate others is required. Additionally, strong computer skills and familiarity with the Incident Command System are required. ASSOCIATE ENGINEER (1H): Requires 3 years of applicable engineering work experience or 2 years of work experience in engineering, construction, or other operations area is required.




Responsibilities: Responsible to plan, design, and analyze all activities for the successful planning of gas transmission and distribution projects. Candidate is required to perform network analyses, develop system reinforcement plans, and provide engineering and system operation support and guidance to Gas Control and GERC during gas system emergencies. Candidate may be required to prepare and issue specifications and drawings based on Federal, State and local code requirements. Represent the Company on committees working on various issues. Establish and maintain effective lines of communication among various internal and external organizations. Provide guidance to Operating Organizations in regards to codes, specifications, and drawings. Candidate may be required for writing technical reports and conducting technical presentations to all levels of management



In addition, the candidate is required to be part of an emergency on-call rotation and to provide technical support during system emergencies.

Physical Requirements: Position requires a valid driver’s license. Must be able to travel to various Company work locations within the five boroughs, Westchester, Orange and Rockland Counties. Travel is also required to attend various meetings at non-Company locations. Must be able to visit field sites in all types of weather as required and wear the associated PPE

ENGINEER (2L): Bachelor of Science in Engineering with 5 years relevant work experience of which 2 years in engineering, construction, or other operations area, with 1 year of management experience in same areas is required. SENIOR ENGINEER (2H): Requires Bachelor of Science in Engineering and at least 8 years of work experience in engineering, construction, or other operations area, with 3 years of management experience in same areas is required.

Supports R&D projects and industry developments associated with gas construction, distribution and maintenance. Provide engineering guidance to field personnel in any area or department and acts as the Company’s representative when dealing with external organizations, agencies, etc. Perform other related tasks and assignments as required.
