ENGINEER (2L): Requires 3 years of applicable engineering work and design experience. SENIOR ENGINEER (2H): Requires 8 years of applicable engineering work experience. P.E. License is preferred. Project management experience preferred. Preference will be given to those with the following: Gas Engineering, Gas Operations, utility work, industrial, heavy commercial or petrochemical industry experience. Knowledge of pipeline welding, non-destructive testing, and pipeline construction for all candidates is also preferred.

Responsibilities: The engineer will be responsible for the complete management of selected projects; design and review of gas transmission and distribution systems, including design, equipment, and installation specifications, bid preparation and evaluation, appropriations, scheduling, construction and acceptance testing. The engineer will provide technical support and guidance to operations, maintenance and construction personnel, as well as providing direct field support in response to failures and emergencies. The engineer will make technical and economical evaluations to determine the best design features for the gas systems. The Candidate will be required to travel to all Con Edison sites requiring support.



A valid driver's license is required. Travel within service territory required. Selected candidate must be willing and able to work in all weather conditions. The working environment consists of both office and field settings. Qualifications: The Equipment and Field Engineering Department of Central Engineering is seeking to hire highly motivated and dedicated professionals to join its Substation Equipment Engineering Section. The candidates must be well organized, detail oriented, and able to render sound technical decisions. Preference will be given to candidates with a specialization in electrical or power systems. Expertise in and experience with the development and application of technical principles in substation equipment rating, application, specification, engineering, operation, and maintenance is required for the Engineer and Senior Engineer titles. Associate Engineer (1H): Requires two years of full time work experience to include at least 1 year of applicable engineering work experience. Engineer (2L): Candidates must have at least 3 years applicable engineering work experience as well as moderate experience in the application, specification, engineering, operation, installation, and maintenance of electrical equipment and systems. Senior Engineer (2H): Candidates must have at least 8 years of engineering work experience in the design, engineering, application, and troubleshooting of major substation electrical equipment, e.g., power transformers, high-voltage (HV) circuit breakers, medium-voltage (MV) switchgear. Candidates must have working knowledge of applicable codes and industry standards associated with the equipment. Candidates are also required to work independently, initiate areas of investigation, and drive projects/programs independently to achieve results. Professional Engineering (PE) license and/or Master’s degree is preferred.

Responsibilities: Selected candidates will be responsible for providing the R&D, application, design engineering, specification preparation, purchase, construction and maintenance support for major substation electrical equipment (HV and MV circuit breakers, power transformers, MV switchgear, capacitor banks, gas-insulated substations (GIS), instrument transformers, dc systems, test sets, etc.). This includes preparation of electrical equipment specifications, technical analysis of bid proposals, review of all manufacturers’ designs and drawings, factory and field inspection, and furnishing of technical expertise to the Construction and Operating Departments. Responsible for providing field support to system and equipment problems. They will provide technical guidance and resolve problems during substation equipment installation, maintenance, and repair or replacement of equipment. For problems related to equipment installation, failures, and equipment maintenance, candidates will provide field support by responding to system and equipment problems; will perform root-cause failure analysis to determine the cause of the failure or problem, whether the failure or problem is due to engineering, design, or manufacturing deficiencies or due to system or operational conditions; and will make determinations about equipment failure trending. The successful candidates will issue test procedures and determine whether problematic equipment should be repaired or replaced. Candidates will coordinate support from other Central Engineering groups in responding to emergencies and to service and maintenance problems. A majority of the candidate’s time will be spent in the electrical substations. Will provide technical support to Distribution Engineering, Electric Planning and Substation Operations for substation equipment, and develop and maintain substation equipment ratings under various ambient, substation configuration, and system operating conditions. Duties will also include monitoring and trending of equipment outages and failures and of equipment maintenance performance; as well as the preparation of monthly summaries of outage time and reliability KPI, and of reports on the root cause of problem reports. Understanding of specification, design, manufacture, operation and maintenance of major electrical equipment will be required to ascertain its thermal limiting element and failure mechanism. Candidates will respond to technical questions in a timely manner and monitor and evaluate operation and maintenance for reliability, safety, and efficiency. Candidates will interface with equipment manufacturers, industry standards and R&D organizations.


Physical Requirements: The positions require working in and around substations that are under construction and/or in service. The positions involve working around electrical equipment, working indoors and outdoors, and ladder climbing. A driver's license is required for travel within service territory. Candidates must be available to work additional hours, as needed, for system emergencies or equipment outage schedules.

Responsibilities: The Control Systems Engineer will interface with several departments in Central Engineering; Design Engineering, Civil/ Mechanical Engineering, Field and Equipment Engineering, Environmental Engineering and Program Support, as well as the operating departments and service groups for the various Steam Operations power plants. The Control Systems Engineer will provide engineering support, modeling, studies, and project development for the stations by responding to Engineering Service Requests (ESRs), developing Project Scoping Documents, appropriation of capital projects , engineering and design of capital projects, construction specification preparation, providing construction support , developing functional test procedures and system descriptions, start-up and commissioning of projects, and performing project close-out responsibilities In addition, the Control Systems Engineer will provide routine support to Steam Operations in responding to Station events in troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and development of corrective actions. The Control Systems Engineer will address the controls for the water treatment systems, feed water systems, combustion controls, emissions controls, turbine and generator controls, and steam send out system controls for Steam Operations Power Plants. These controls consist of pneumatic, hydraulic, and electric actuators, microprocessor based control systems; PLCs, Distributed Control Systems, and relay based controls, motor controls, and the instrumentation associated with these control systems. In all aspects of the position, the Control Systems Engineer will ensure that safe work practices are followed and the environment is fully protected in accordance with Company policy and governmental regulations.


Physical Requirements: Must have a valid driver's license and travel within the service territory. Must be able to make field visits and wear the required PPE.

Experience and expertise in application and development of technical principles and practices associated with Electrical Utility systems is required. Experience shall be specific to the electrical engineering and application of Power Systems, Substations and Transmission facilities. Experience with conceptual design, system planning and electrical analysis is highly desirable. Strong oral and written communications skills are required for managing projects, making presentations and project conflict resolution. Requires either a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, or a Bachelors of Engineering (any major) with a Masters in Electrical Engineering. Computer skills are essential. Must be well-versed with Class 1 Division 1 applications. Professional Engineering license preferred for any electrical work in gas facilities requiring approval from NYC Building Code and preference will be given to the candidate who is familiar with the New York City Department of Building electric code, and able to apply for Department of Buildings electrical permits.



Engineer (2L): Must have minimum 3 years applicable experience. Senior Engineer (2H): Must have minimum 6 years’ experience with a Masters degree, or 8 years experience with a Bachelors degree. Experience should include electrical design of power generating stations, analysis or operation of power systems.

Responsibilities: Will evaluate project requirements; prepare scopes of work, design criteria, construction packages, economic analysis, authorization and appropriation funding requests and engineering specifications. Coordinate projects with users and construction and provide field support. Monitor and report on project status, schedules and costs. Interface with or direct project work teams of discipline engineers and designers. Address outage, safety and environmental constraints as required. Prepares or directs the preparation of equipment, cable and accessory purchase specifications; reviews and accepts manufacturer’s proposals and drawings. Serves as Lead Discipline Engineer with decision-making capability, meets with other departments on the erection, testing, maintaining and supplying consultation for the installation of equipment. Responds to emergency calls by operating departments and makes field decisions in his area of responsibility.



Environment and Safety: Ensures Company environmental and safety procedures and goals are incorporated into the project designs. Creates the EH&S Checklist for project installation packages. Manages projects in Project Explorer.

The Project Engineer will report to the Department Manager of Project Engineering within the Central Engineering organization. The ideal candidate must be well organized, detail oriented and able to handle multiple projects while meeting stringent deadlines. She/he will plan, organize, and direct engineering projects, including discipline engineering activities to ensure that Central Engineering work is on schedule, within budget and in accordance with applicable specifications, drawings, safety, human performance, environmental and quality requirements. The selected candidate will direct upgrades and construction projects on behalf of Central Engineering. This includes the responsibility for providing oversight and leadership for the implementation of the project and providing periodic progress and financial reports to the appropriate company executives. Will act as a liaison with regulatory and public officials during the engineering phase of the project, and will assure that necessary permits and licenses are secured. Will also coordinate technical support during field construction activities. The customer base will primarily focus on Gas Operations, however, support for projects in Substation Operations, System and Transmission Operations, and Steam Operations , will also be required. The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical/scientific field with knowledge of engineering design, construction and operations. Requires a total of 8 years work experience in Engineering and/or Project Management of large scale projects. Applicants who also have a Masters degree require 6 years of applicable experience as noted above. Applicants working knowledge of Gas Operations, as well as Steam Operations, System and Transmission Operations, Substation Operations, and Construction is preferred. This position requires excellent leadership, communication (verbal and written), and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with customers both within and outside the company. Requires computer proficiency and knowledge of project schedules.



Professional Engineer (PE) License is preferred. Project Management Professional (PMP) must be obtained within the first two years of assignment.

Responsibilities: The Project Engineer will be responsible for coordinating multi-discipline projects, including reviewing engineering estimates, schedules, field drawings and specifications for completeness and accuracy. Monitors schedules, progress and cost control of the project. Works directly with the Central Operations and/or Gas Operations Project Manager as the single point of contact for Central Engineering for the assigned projects. Ensures engineering adherence to specifications, drawings, company and regulatory requirements and any special conditions. Attend field visits, field walks and pre-award meetings. Ensures that all projects are entered into Project Explorer including job plans, estimates, schedules, engineering calculations and procurement information. Responsible to update status of project deliverables in the Central Engineering Project Status database(s). Coordinates engineering package and schedule review meetings. Ensures implementation of Company safety, human performance, health and environmental programs for all engineering project personnel; and that all Company environmental policies and governmental regulations are followed.



The Project Engineer will support the needs of Con Edison during System Emergencies and Equipment Outages. The Project Engineer will be responsible to monitor and execute the assigned Gas Operations Project Portfolio. It is projected that as the portfolio matures, the Project Engineer will be assigned Band 1 and/or Band 2 individuals to primarily lead the assigned Gas Operations assignments, as well as supporting work in SSO, S&TO, Steam operations as required.

Physical Requirements: The successful candidate must have a valid Driver’s License and must be able to travel within the company service territory as needed. Must be able to make field visits as required and wear the proper PPE.

Qualifications: Mechanical Engineering is seeking to hire an Engineer to join its team. The ideal candidate for this position must be dedicated, self-motivated, and able to work both independently and on teams. Responsibilities: The engineer will be responsible for the complete management of selected projects; review of power plant boiler and auxiliary systems, design, equipment, and installation specifications, bid preparation and evaluation, appropriations, scheduling, construction and acceptance testing. The engineer will provide technical support and guidance to operations, maintenance and construction personnel, as well as providing direct field support in response to failures and emergencies. The engineer will make technical and economical evaluations to determine the best design features for the plant systems. The Candidate will be required to travel to all Con Edison sites requiring support including steam and electric plants.
