Qualifications: Distribution Engineering is seeking a highly motivated individual who has a high regard for personal accountability and understands the importance of Commitment to Excellence to join the System Design group. The System Design group is responsible for maintaining and improving the safety and reliability of Con Edison’s various underground and overhead networks which make up the core of Con Edison’s distribution system. This position’s objective is to have high-level engineering expertise in–house to respond consistently and efficiently to normal, emergency and critical projects. The selected candidate must also demonstrate a high energy level and promote a positive work ethic in support of our Corporate Values, especially, The Way We Work. The selected candidate must have a Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering including technical knowledge of Con Edison's electrical distribution system, as well as familiarity with electrical power system design.



Engineer: 2L- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering with 3 years of Engineering work experience. Sr. Engineer 2H- Bachelors in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering with 8 years of Engineering work experience. Master’s degree is preferred.

Responsibilities: Ensures implementation of Company safety, health and environmental programs for employees whose work they direct. Ensures that safe work practices are followed and the environment is fully protected in accordance with Company policy and governmental regulations. Engineers and designs projects to support the electrical distribution system including load flow analysis, system short circuit and relay coordination studies, load flow studies and/or reliability analysis. Reviews and/or supports the electrical design of company switchgear as well as customer high tension services and distributed generation (DG) installations. This includes performing over-current protection coordination of relays and fuses, review of control systems and electrical and manual interlocks between switches and circuit breakers, review of grounding and bonding of electrical equipment and reviewing consultant drawing for substations installations. The senior engineer also may perform pre-operational testing of electric systems before interconnection to the Company facilities, train staff members in the network systems group, interface and work with Regional engineering staff, attend technical meetings and write technical papers. The senior engineer prepares engineering specifications for the design and installation of the electrical and structural components of the electrical distribution system, including operational, maintenance and test specifications. In addition, the senior engineer serves on in-house and industry technical committees and task forces and provides expert advice to other areas of the Company and may serve as an expert witness when requested. The senior engineer can also be called upon to oversee, guide and train Engineers, Associate Engineers and Technicians, when so directed.


Physical Requirements: Must have a valid driver's license and able to work outdoors, walk, drive, climb and bend. Must be available for emergency work twenty-four (24) hours a day as system conditions dictate.
