Qualifications: The Transmission Planning Department is seeking to recruit a highly motivated, dedicated, and professional individual to join the Interconnection Services Section. The ideal candidate for this position must have solid knowledge and understanding of power engineering principles, including the utilization of analytical tools commonly used to analyze the performance of electrical systems. Requires strong oral and written communication, with the ability to effectively interact with customers and various levels of management (including coordination with neighboring companies and those Merchant Transmission and Generation providers seeking to interconnect to the NYS Bulk Power System). Selected candidate must have experience working in a team environment. Must be able to exercise independent judgment and possess the ability to render sound business decisions. Must be well organized, detail oriented and flexible to handle multiple tasks and changing deadlines. Requires strong computer skills, including ability to process load flow, contingency analysis and short circuit analysis utilizing analytical tools commonly used to analyze the performance of electrical systems, MS Office, and other PC-based programs. Ability to coordinate engineering projects is required. Bachelors or Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electric Power Engineering is required. Associate Engineer A (1H) – Must have 2 years experience in application and theory of electrical engineering principles in the area of planning, design and/or operation of the bulk electrical transmission system. ; Engineer (2L) – Must have 4 years experience in application and theory of electrical engineering principles in the area of planning, design and/or operation of the bulk electrical transmission system.



Previous experience in the analysis of the NY State and/or Con Edison Transmission System, utilization of one or more of the following PSS/E, ASPEN, EMTP, GE-MARS are preferred. Previous engineering project management, NYISO Interconnection Process, and tariff experience is preferred. The S&TO organization pays particular attention to the attendance and performance records of all applicants. Internal applicants who do not meet this threshold may not be considered.

Responsibilities: The selected candidate may/will be required to: coordinate, perform, and communicate the results of planning studies and evaluate the results of studies performed by others relating to the current and future operation/design of the Con Edison integrated electric power system, and recommend system modifications/upgrades; conduct economic analyses of transmission alternatives; evaluate reliability benefits of alternative plans, provide technical expertise and guidance; coordinate Company resources to provide support to developers of new generation and transmission resources. May be required to act as a Manager during the absence of Section Manager. Will represent the department on internal and external committees, teams and task forces and at regulatory proceedings.


Physical Requirements: Must have a valid driver's license. Must be able and willing to travel throughout the Con Edison service territory and make field visits when required. Must be able and willing to wear the appropriate PPE when field conditions dictate their use. Must be able and willing to travel to Con Edison Substations, as well as neighboring utility and industry locations.

Qualifications: The Transmission Planning Department is seeking to recruit a highly motivated and dedicated professional to join its NERC Reliability Compliance team. The ideal candidate for this position must have fundamental knowledge and understanding of power transmission, distribution and generation principles. In addition, the ideal candidate must possess familiarity with electric reliability planning concepts. Strong organizational and administrative skills are essential. Must demonstrate strong attention to detail and have successful experience working in a team environment. Must demonstrate ability to adhere to schedules and meet deadlines. Must possess strong oral and written communication skills and be able to exercise independent judgment. Must demonstrate ability to learn and apply new topics. Must have strong computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Demonstrated performance of value-added assignments is required. Requires a BS degree in Engineering and relevant work experience as follows: ASSOCIATE ENGINEER (1H) – Requires 2 years work experience to include one year applicable engineering experience. ENGINEER (2L) – 3 years applicable engineering experience. SR. ENGINEER (2H) – 8 years applicable engineering experience. Experience in drafting technical procedures, business process documents or specifications for the electric power industry is preferred. Familiarity with ISO or RTO rules is preferred. Familiarity with SharePoint or other document management and archiving software a plus.



Familiarity with North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Reliability Standards preferred. Preferred knowledge of the Con Edison electric service area transmission, distribution and power generating facilities. The S&TO organization pays particular attention to the performance records of all applicants. Applicants who do not meet this threshold may not be considered.

Responsibilities: Perform all day-to-day technical and administrative tasks associated with the Con Edison NERC Reliability Compliance Program. Prepare audit document packages for submittal to the NPCC and participate in on-site, off-site and spot check audits. Ensure the timely, accurate and well-documented submittal of data to NPCC. Under the guidance of the Section Manager, review data submittals proposed by Company organizations to ensure adequacy and alignment with relevant NERC standards. Assist Company organizations in the development of compliance violation Mitigation Plans. Monitor and report on status of Mitigation Plan implementation. Support various departments within Con Edison to ensure compliance with NERC reliability standards. Write procedures to detail and identify the functions of the Compliance Program. Become proficient in all NERC Standards and present and explain the NERC Standards to other Company organizations. Make compliance program presentations to various Company organizations and at the executive level.


Physical Requirements: Must be able to travel to various Company locations and to other companies if required. Must be available to travel out-of-town (including Canada) and represent the Company at ISO, NPCC and NERC meetings. Must have valid driver's license.

Selected candidate must have computer literacy and the ability to direct the usage of electronic computer-based analytical simulations; be experienced working productively and effectively in a team environment; demonstrate ability to adhere to schedules and meet deadlines; and must have excellent interpersonal, verbal, presentation and written communication skills. Depending on level, the selected candidate must have the ability to coordinate basic-to-moderate, moderate-to-high or highly complex engineering projects. The position requires a Bachelors or Master Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electric Power Engineering is required.



The candidate must have the following years of experience in application and theory of electrical engineering principles in the area of planning, design and/or operation of the bulk electrical transmission system: Associate Engineer A (1H): Must have at least 2 years’ experience; Engineer (2L): Must have at least 4 years’ experience; Senior Engineer (2H): Must have at least 8 years’ experience. The S&TO organization pays particular attention to the performance records of all applicants. Applicants who do not meet this threshold may not be considered.

The candidate for the Technical Associate position must have a minimum of 1 years’ experience, which may include Engineering Co-Op and Internships, in application and theory of electrical engineering principles in the area of planning, design and/or operation of the bulk electric transmission system.

Responsibilities: The selected candidate will plan the overall development of the Con Edison bulk electric transmission system on both a long-range and a short-range basis. The selected candidate will conduct routine studies, of basic complexity in engineering design and planning, in accordance with applicable Criteria, Rules and Standards, of the bulk electric transmission system that may include short circuit, thermal and voltage analysis. The selected candidate will also modify, and/or write computer programs (or subroutines) required to perform these studies. In addition, the selected candidate will interact with the NYISO as it relates to the maintenance of the Transmission System Modeling Data. The selected candidate may be assigned to work under the supervision of a Team Leader, such as an Engineer, a Senior Engineer or a Technical Specialist.


Physical Requirements: The selected candidate must have a valid driver’s license; and must be able and willing to travel to attend meetings/conferences as required on Company business.



The selected candidate must be able to participate in the Company’s emergency management process or storm plans as required.
