Qualifications: Steam Services is seeking an Associate Engineer A or Engineer to work under the direction of the Manager of Sales in Steam Business Development in the areas of Sales and Marketing, New Business, and Administration to support the Steam Business Development Group (SBD) in its mission to retain existing and attract new steam customers. The (1H) Associate Engineer A requires a Bachelor’s degree in engineering and a minimum of 2 years work experience in engineering, consulting, and/or energy services. The (2L) Engineer requires a Bachelor’s Degree in engineering and a minimum of 3 years’ work experience in engineering, consulting, and/or energy services. Candidate must have a working knowledge of systems along with technical terms and terminology of central building utility systems and equipment (e.g. heating, cooling, power, cogeneration) and district energy supply systems. Candidate must have computer skills in software systems relevant to the position (such as, Project Management, Database Management, Spreadsheet Software (Excel), and Presentation, Document and Graphics Software). Must be a highly motivated individual who understands and demonstrates a strong commitment to excellence to join the Business Development team. The successful candidate must be highly flexible, have strong initiative, be able to simultaneously coordinate multiple projects, and have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.




Responsibilities: Assists in preparing (1H) or performs (2L) technical and economic analyses comparing the use of district steam versus on-site alternatives for the heating and cooling of major commercial buildings in Manhattan. In particular, the candidate must be familiar with CHP technologies and associated customer equipment such as chillers, cooling towers, heat exchangers, and energy supply options. The 1H position will provide initial reviews and critiques of technical and economic analyses prepared by consulting engineers on behalf of building owners and property managers. The 2L position will assess the viability and practicality of analyses presented, determine what additional documentation is required from the Customer and recommend a Company response. This individual also develops reference data and studies of customer behaviors using in house databases and external technical resources. Supports customers on applications for steam service and guidance through the on boarding process for steam service turn on. This will include being a liaison between the customer and Steam Engineering on the schedule, content and technical requirements to obtain a steam service line and build a steam metering station. Performs internal functions involved with bringing on new steam customers including opening and maintaining steam customer files, reviewing steam load letters from consulting engineers, calculating Pure Base Revenue (PBR) estimates, issuing Service Information Requests (SIRs), obtaining signed applications, deposits and rider payments from customers. Manages a portfolio of existing accounts and provides assistance and guidance to associated customers on matters affecting their accounts. Participates in the implementation of rate case programs focused on business development. Currently, this includes the Customer Sited Supply pilot program and the ongoing evaluation and promotion of steam efficiency measures. Capable of creating and delivering presentations both internally and in trade events. Calculates and tracks performance measures related to customer usage and demand. Categorizes performance by relevant indices to contribute to forecasting and business plan development. Monitor and report the status of new and existing steam customer projects through communication with the Steam Engineering and Construction Groups. Promote steam sales through timely and effective interaction with Energy Services Managers and Representatives. Obtain monthly reports from Energy Services for use by SBD. Perform staff support related functions including time reporting, expense account handling, and computer, telecommunications and facilities support services as well as support functions for Section Manager. These responsibilities include assisting with the preparation of annual accounts payable budgets, , preparation and/or review of pertinent materials, and the participation in meetings on behalf of the Manager where appropriate. Prepare materials for the Vice President Staff Meetings and other meetings as requested by Upper Management. Arrange customer related functions including the scheduling of meetings with customers, the arrangements of luncheons, dinners and other affairs with customers/customer groups, and the preparation of customer correspondence. Perform other related tasks and assignments as required. Provide analysis and information to support the Steam Communications Manager’s portfolio of brochures, presentations, and mailings that promote steam services.

Senior Engineer (2H): Must have minimum 8 years experience in the design, analysis or operation of power systems, high voltage substations and transmission systems. Applicants with a Masters require 6 years experience. Engineer (2L): Must have minimum 3 years applicable experience. Associate Engineer A (1H): Must have 2 years work experience to include at least 1 year applicable engineering experience.

Responsibilities: Will evaluate project requirements; prepare scopes of work, design criteria, construction packages, economic analysis, authorization and appropriation funding requests and engineering specifications. Coordinate projects with users and construction and provide field support. Monitor and report on project status, schedules and costs. Interface with or direct project work teams of discipline engineers and designers. Address outage, safety and environmental constraints as required. Prepares or directs the preparation of equipment, cable and accessory purchase specifications; reviews and accepts manufacturer’s proposals and drawings. Serves as Lead Discipline Engineer with decision-making capability, meets with other departments on the erection, testing, maintaining and supplying consultation for the installation of equipment. Responds to emergency calls by operating departments and makes field decisions in his area of responsibility.



Environment and Safety: Ensures Company environmental and safety procedures and goals are incorporated into the project designs. Creates the EH&S Checklist for project installation packages. Manages projects in Project Explorer

Provide support to existing and proposed Company Substation & Transmission facilities, Purchasing and Construction Departments for the procurement and construction of projects. Supervise both in-house and out-of-house design efforts. Respond to emergencies on a 24/7 basis.


Physical Requirements: Must hold a valid driver’s license. Travel within service territory required. Position requires working indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, climbing stairs and ladders. Must be able to work in a substation environment with noise, heat, confined space, tall structures etc. Must be able to wear a respirator and full body fall protection.

Responsibilities: Investigate system incidents to determine root cause and issue recommendations for corrective action. Review schematic and wiring diagrams and test result data. Perform short circuit calculations and relay coordination studies. Develop Corrective Action Plans to prevent relay misoperations. The candidate will keep his/her supervisor informed on a timely basis of actual and/or anticipated problems of the assignments that are hi/her responsibility. Work closely with other departments to perform problem analysis and specify relay tests. Periodically, must be available 24 hours a day to consult with operating organizations on relay problems. Resolve emergencies associated with relay protection systems. Develop and issue relay protection settings as needed to for Corrective Action Plans. May on occasion design and apply relay protection systems, including teleprotection channels. Design modifications to existing relay systems, sometimes in steps to minimize equipment outages. Participate in field walks and emergency project meetings. Develop descriptive documents regarding relay protection systems, for use by operating personnel. Respond as needed to requests from State, Regional, and Federal regulatory agencies. Assure compliance to applicable State, Regional, and Federal standards, guidelines, criteria, etc.


Physical Requirements: Driver’s license required for travel within service territory and for meeting with other utilities. Must be available for travel both regionally and continent-wide, to attend conferences, meetings, etc. as needed.

Responsibilities: Provide managerial, estimating/financial and consulting assistance to Central Operations major project program and Operation Services initiatives. Develop new and effective reports and techniques for compiling, analyzing and evaluating financial and productivity data. Prepare and update trends and organizational charts. Complies with all Company safety, health and environmental programs. Ensures that safe work practices are followed in accordance with Company policy and governmental regulations. Will performs Special Projects as requested.

Responsibilities: With minimal guidance provides support for all LAN/WAN initiatives for Central Engineering. The System Analyst will assist in the support, diagnosis, and configuring of computer equipment. The candidate will: Image, install, and support Engineering and workstations, laptops, tablets (Surface Pro, Samsung Slate, etc.) and associated equipment. The System Analyst is expected to support and administer Central Engineering’s document and drawing management systems. The System Analyst will work with contracted vendors to resolve Remote Access (CERA) issues. Provides off-hours on-call support when necessary.
