Qualifications: The Transmission Planning Department is seeking to recruit highly motivated and dedicated professional individuals to join the Long Range Planning section. Selected candidates must be well organized, detail oriented and flexible to handle multiple tasks and changing deadlines. Candidates should have fundamental knowledge and understanding of power engineering principles, including the utilization of analytical tools commonly used to analyze the performance of electrical systems. Strong computer skills preferred, including ability to process load flow, contingency analysis, Short Circuit analysis programs (PSSE, or ASPEN), MS Office, and other PC-based programs. Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electric Power Engineering or a Master’s in Electrical Engineering or Electric Power Engineering. Associate Engineer A (1H): Must have 2 years work experience, with 1 year of applicable engineering experience. Engineer (2L): Must have 3 years applicable engineering experience.



Preferred Engineering experience in transmission planning and/or the related areas of transmission operation, distribution engineering, electrical engineering or reliability analysis. Preferred knowledge of the Con Edison electric service area transmission, distribution and power generating facilities. The S&TO organization pays particular attention to performance records of all applicants. Applicants who do not meet this threshold may not be considered.

Responsibilities: The selected candidate may be required to: coordinate, perform, and communicate the results of planning studies and evaluate the results of studies performed by others relating to the current and future operation/design of the Con Edison integrated electric power system; evaluate results, and recommend system modifications/upgrades; evaluate reliability benefits of alternative plans, provide technical expertise and guidance; May be required to act as a Manager during the absence of Section Manager. Will represent the department on internal and external committees, teams and task forces and at regulatory proceedings.



Must be able to travel throughout the Con Edison service territory and make field visits when required. Must be able to wear the required PPE when required. Must be able to travel to neighboring utility and industry locations.

Qualifications: The Transmission Planning Department is seeking to recruit a highly motivated and dedicated professional to join its NERC Reliability Compliance team. The ideal candidate for this position must have fundamental knowledge and understanding of power transmission, distribution and generation principles. In addition, the ideal candidate must possess familiarity with electric reliability planning concepts. Strong organizational and administrative skills are essential. Must demonstrate strong attention to detail and have successful experience working in a team environment. Must demonstrate ability to adhere to schedules and meet deadlines. Must possess strong oral and written communication skills and be able to exercise independent judgment. Must demonstrate ability to learn and apply new topics. Must have strong computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Demonstrated performance of value-added assignments is required. Requires a BS degree in Engineering and relevant work experience as follows: ASSOCIATE ENGINEER (1H) – Requires 2 years work experience to include one year applicable engineering experience. ENGINEER (2L) – 3 years applicable engineering experience. SR. ENGINEER (2H) – 8 years applicable engineering experience. Experience in drafting technical procedures, business process documents or specifications for the electric power industry is preferred. Familiarity with ISO or RTO rules is preferred. Familiarity with SharePoint or other document management and archiving software a plus.



Familiarity with North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Reliability Standards preferred. Preferred knowledge of the Con Edison electric service area transmission, distribution and power generating facilities. The S&TO organization pays particular attention to the performance records of all applicants. Applicants who do not meet this threshold may not be considered.

Responsibilities: Perform all day-to-day technical and administrative tasks associated with the Con Edison NERC Reliability Compliance Program. Prepare audit document packages for submittal to the NPCC and participate in on-site, off-site and spot check audits. Ensure the timely, accurate and well-documented submittal of data to NPCC. Under the guidance of the Section Manager, review data submittals proposed by Company organizations to ensure adequacy and alignment with relevant NERC standards. Assist Company organizations in the development of compliance violation Mitigation Plans. Monitor and report on status of Mitigation Plan implementation. Support various departments within Con Edison to ensure compliance with NERC reliability standards. Write procedures to detail and identify the functions of the Compliance Program. Become proficient in all NERC Standards and present and explain the NERC Standards to other Company organizations. Make compliance program presentations to various Company organizations and at the executive level.


Physical Requirements: Must be able to travel to various Company locations and to other companies if required. Must be available to travel out-of-town (including Canada) and represent the Company at ISO, NPCC and NERC meetings. Must have valid driver's license.

Strong organizational, leadership, interpersonal and decision-making skills are essential. To succeed in this position, the right candidate must be self-motivated, resourceful and articulate. This individual will possess a “can-do” attitude, a clear sense of accountability, and a commitment to environmental excellence and safety in the workplace. The candidate must have experience in engineering, design, and/or construction of substations and or steam generation facilities, OR applicable type experience. Strong oral and written communications skills are required. Candidate must have strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with people on all levels. Computer and mainframe proficiency is required including knowledge of Microsoft Project, CEES and/or similar computer software program. Preference given to candidates with experience in developing electrical, mechanical and/or civil cost estimates for construction projects at substations and or steam generation facilities, and/or familiarity with engineering, design and construction of substations and steam generation facilities. Required education and work experience are specified as follows:



SPECIALIST (1H): Requires either a Technical or Non Technical Bachelor’s degree with at least 3 years of applicable work experience. In lieu of Bachelor’s degree, Associates degree with at least 5 years applicable experience or Technical High School Diploma with at least 10 years applicable experience in any of the following areas: power utility or heavy industrial cost estimating experience in at least one discipline (e.g., electrical, civil, mechanical, etc.) with knowledge in other disciplines - transmission, distribution or generation engineering design, - transmission, distribution or generation construction experience. SR. SPECIALIST (2L): requires either a Technical or Non Technical Bachelor’s Degree with at least 5 years of applicable work experience. In lieu of Bachelor’s Degree, an Associates Degree with at least 7 years applicable experience, or a Technical High School Diploma with at least 15 years applicable experience in any of the following areas: • power utility or heavy industrial cost estimating experience in at least one discipline (e.g., electrical, civil, mechanical, etc.) with knowledge in other disciplines - transmission, distribution or generation engineering design, - transmission, distribution or generation construction experience.

Responsibilities: Prepares conceptual, authorization and appropriation cost estimates for multidiscipline construction projects. Must be able to develop estimates based on preliminary work scopes, drawings and sketches, while relying on personal experiences and or historical data to fill in missing information. Should have an understanding of the capital budget process and utility economics in the preparation of authorization and appropriation estimates used to obtain project funding approvals. Should be able to contribute to the development of project work scopes during estimate preparation to ensure project constructability and lower costs. Must be able to evaluate alternative designs and contribute to the optimum design selection. Meets with engineering, construction and the user organizations to ensure all aspects of the project have been incorporated in the estimate.
