Qualifications: Brooklyn and Queens Overhead Construction is seeking an Operating Supervisor to join its management team. The ideal candidate must demonstrate a high energy level and who recognizes the importance of personal responsibility and has a commitment to providing a superior level of customer service. Bachelor’s degree or 5 years line construction experience preferred. Candidate must demonstrate basic knowledge in the construction, operations, maintenance, repair and inspection of Overhead, URD or Underground electric distribution systems. The successful candidate must have excellent leadership and interpersonal skills that will result in effective interactions with customers, operating/field personnel and corporate management. Must be able to exercise independent judgment and demonstrate excellent problem solving abilities. The candidate must be well organized, detail oriented and be able to handle a variety of assignments while at the same time meeting any required deadlines. The candidate must also possess strong written communications skills. The candidate must have the ability to evaluate, prioritize and respond rapidly to changing conditions on the electric distribution system. The candidate must also be able to supervise contractors or employees and manage their productivity, and possess good interpersonal skills. Must have the ability to understand and interpret M&S plates, diagrams and feeder prints. Working knowledge of computer systems is required.




Responsibilities: The Operating Supervisor will be responsible for supervising Chief Line Constructor HV’s and other subordinate titled personnel. Ensures that subordinates' work activities are performed in a safe and efficient manner and in accordance with established policies and procedures and that they are fully committed and in compliance with all environmental laws and regulations and company policies and procedures. Ensures that the installation, removal, repair, testing and replacement of overhead conductors and devices are performed Brooklyn/Queens Overhead group in compliance with operating procedures and engineering plans and specifications. Orders, coordinates and ensure availability and timely delivery of materials, supplies and equipment. Certifies, accounts for and approves expenditures for labor, material, supplies and equipment within prescribed limits. Plans, organizes, schedules and assigns personnel to meet operating and climatic conditions. Communicates, coordinates and enforces supervisory activities associated with good housekeeping practices for equipment and work areas. Monitors first-line safety programs. Ensures that the Daily Crew Activity Reports are accurate and signed to indicate approval. Evaluates the quality of completed work and identifies deficiencies and their causes and corrects them. Takes an active role in the training and development of subordinates and direct reports ensuring they receive mandatory compliance and skill training as required by OSHA and company specifications.



The Supervisor will research and complete assigned projects as required.

Physical Requirements: Must be able to work outdoors and under extreme weather conditions. Must be able to walk and drive extensively, as well as climb, bend, pull and lift. Must be available for emergency work 24 hours per day. Must be able to work on ladders, from buckets in the air, and able to climb poles or learn to climb poles. Must have medical approval for both a CDL and respirator fit. Must be qualified to obtain asbestos city/state supervisor’s license. The candidates must possess a valid CDL license or attain a CDL license within 6 months.
