Qualifications: The Law Department is seeking a highly motivated candidate who demonstrates a strong commitment to excellence and understands the vital importance of personal accountability. The successful must possess a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited Law School. Admission (or the ability to waive in) to the New York State Bar is required. Must have a minimum of two to three years of experience providing federal (i.e., FERC and federal court) or state legal and regulatory services as part of an in-house utility law department, a law firm, a regulatory agency, or a gas pipeline. Knowledge of federal or state electric or gas regulation, laws, and policies is required. Must have knowledge of FERC Standards of Conduct. Must have experience in preparing comments and other submissions at federal or state regulatory agencies. Experience in rate or other contested proceedings before federal or state agencies required. Must have the ability to organize and coordinate projects effectively and efficiently. Must have the flexibility and ability to handle a busy work environment.




Responsibilities: The Senior Staff Attorney will be primarily responsible for providing federal legal and regulatory services for the Company, including representing the Company in FERC regulatory matters, and providing advice and legal counsel to the Company’s internal clients. Must excel at written and oral communication skills, negotiation skills, presentation skills and interpersonal skills, and must be able to adopt a customer service mentality. Will render legal advice and assist in the representation of the Company in federal and state administrative proceedings and related judicial appeals. Will assist in the preparation of a variety of regulatory filings including tariff and rate filings. Will assist in the preparation of briefs, comments, and other submissions in contested proceedings at federal and state regulatory agencies and in federal court. Will perform legal research and write legal memoranda. Will provide any other legal service related to Company operations. Will perform other duties as assigned.



Ensure implementation of Company safety, health and environmental programs for employees whose work is directed. Physical Requirements: Must have a valid driver’s license. Must be able and willing to travel within the Company’s service territory and to Washington, D.C., Albany, N.Y., Trenton, N.J., and Newark, N.J., as needed. Must be able to participate in the Company’s emergency management processes and storm plans as required.
