Qualifications: Selected candidates must have a minimum of a high school diploma or GED and a minimum of five years gas-related work experience in Gas Distribution and/or Gas Construction, with extensive experience in the investigation and classification of gas leaks. Or a minimum AAS degree with 3 years of gas related work experience in GDS or construction is preferred. These candidates must be proficient in the proper testing and operation of natural gas detection equipment. In addition, the selected candidates must be able to read and interpret gas, steam, and electric mains and services plates. Must demonstrate proficiency in the use and operation of computers. Selected candidates must have good oral and written communication skills and must successfully pass a written test and an interview for the Electrical Technician (ET) title. These candidates will also be expected to pass a written and practical examination for promotion into the Senior Electrical Technician (SET) title, within 18 months of obtaining the Electrical Technician title. Duties include conducting walking and mobile surveys of gas mains, services, stations and plants using gas General Mains plates, BYERS mapping software, Mains & Services Plates and Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD)/Gas Inspection System (GIS) computer system. Demonstrate proficiency with Detecto Pak Infrared device (DPIR), Gas Measuring Instruments (GMI) and various gas leak investigation tools. Additional duties include conducting gas leak investigations, classification of gas leaks, documenting surveys and leak investigations and inspection of gas piping for atmospheric corrosion. Candidates selected for positions will also be crossed trained for assignments in Corrosion Control. Duties in Corrosion Control include, but are not limited to, taking pipe-to-soil readings and performing pipeline mark outs.

Responsibilities: Will Ensure implementation of Company safety, health and environmental programs for employees whose work is directed. Ensure that required training for self and field crews are completed in accordance with the training guidelines and title/position specific requirements, including operator qualifications, Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S), and Documented OJT’s. Ensure that all workout centers and job sites meet the highest standards related to "Environmental Excellence" as well as strict adherence to all City, State and Federal environmental laws, and the Con Edison Work Area Protection guidelines. Ensure that all field crews, both contractors and Company forces, are performing their work efficiently, safely and in accordance with Company specifications and procedures, as well as in strict adherence to PSC and OSHA competent person rules. Ensure the timely completion of system repairs to improve productivity and work practices/procedures. Will supervise field personnel in work activities, coach, schedule, train, and have appropriate safety discussions with personnel. Assign and dispatch field forces to work locations. Develop contingency work plans for crews in case the primary job cannot be worked. Ensure proper oversight of Company forces and contractor crews. Discuss and/or review daily job briefings with the crews, visit workout locations to verify safety and quality of work being performed, as well as to witness critical tasks being performed. Ensure that all required documentation is accurate and completed within a timely fashion, including, but not limited to: emergency sketches, as-constructed drawings, valve reports, leak reports (50-13Rs), time entry, contractor billing documents, and Job Site Safety Evaluations. Ensure that all required documentation is forwarded to the appropriate departments in accordance with Con Edison specification and procedures, such as emergency sketches to Gas Engineering, Control Room, and Supporting Organizations. Check work locations to ensure that all expectations are being met, and all items are accounted for, including but not limited to: proper housekeeping, appropriate PPE, sheeting and shoring as required, plating as required, debris pickup and barricade pickup, vehicle properly equipped, proper work area protection, valid permits and permit posting, proper controls of material, compliance with all work procedures and specifications. Schedule jobs in accordance with priorities as discussed with Field Operations Planner and Section Manager. Ensure proper area restoration upon completion of job, utilizing appropriate backfill techniques in accordance with Local Law 14, backfilling in lifts, and cut backs. Direct field crews at gas incident locations to ensure hazard removal in an expeditious and safe manner. Notify higher supervision on status of sensitive jobs. Enforce disciplinary rules and regulations. Prepare and/or assist with the preparation of cut out procedures for jobs involving L.P. mains greater than 12" and H.P. mains 4" and greater, in accordance with Gas Specifications. Perform other related tasks and assignments as required.


Physical Requirements: Must have a valid driver’s license. Must be able and willing to travel within Company service territory, as needed. The position requires working in all types of weather conditions when in the field, as well as climbing and working in areas of limited space. Must be able to respond to emergency conditions when called. Must be willing to work overtime, on all shifts and be on call 24 hours a day.

Training, HR, and/or administrative experience preferred. General understanding of electronic management systems (learning management systems preferred). Responsibilities: Perform record and field reviews in a highly motivated manner that demonstrates a strong commitment to excellence and personal accountability. Participate in the development of procedures and standards as needed. Develop or implement quality standards, criteria, and goals in conjunction with the operating areas and continually measure performance with respect to specification and regulatory compliance. Develop innovative and effective strategies to improve the way we do business via a strong partnership with the operating areas to implement effective change to increase knowledge of, and adherence to, the specifications applicable to daily work and foster a strong culture of compliance. Work with internal computer applications including GIS, ECS, Byers, Data Warehouse and CAD to verify that all information systems properly report out discrepancies, deficiencies, and inspection status.
