Qualifications: Con Edison is currently in the process of planning the deployment of Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), which will involve installing over 5 million electric and gas Smart Meters. This initiative comes at a time when New York State is seeking to rethink and improve its energy future. The Con Edison AMI smart meter initiative is integral to this very effort, and it is the most influential project in the company’s history. Information Technology’s AMI Implementation Technical Architecture Team is seeking a dedicated, dynamic, and innovative Senior Application Administrator to join its management team. The candidate must recognize the importance of Commitment to Excellence, be able to provide exemplary customer service, demonstrate a high energy level, be flexible, and be able to handle multiple assignments while meeting deadlines. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) mission critical enterprise applications are implemented on time, according to specification, and meet performance requirements. The candidate will support assigned core AMI applications such as the AMI Head End System (HES), Meter Data Management System (MDMS) or Meter Asset Management System (MAMS). This Senior Application Administrator is a senior position and should be able to function under minimal direction. While the primary function is to ensure the systems that this candidate is responsible for are up and running, this role will require planning and preparation for modifications to system requirements (including increase capacity and performance requirements), additional systems, and future upgrades. This role requires support throughout the implementation phases of the systems involved, and also the operations and maintenance of these systems after their ‘go-live.’ This position requires an Information Technology Bachelor’s Degree with 5 years working in a related role. Also requires experience leading technology project teams and performing project management functions. Expertise in application administration and application architecture is preferred. The following are also required skills: • Thorough knowledge and experience with the configuration, implementation, and management of monitoring and performance management application technologies. • Strong troubleshooting capability, including ‘hands-on’ experience and coordination of issue resolution (including assigning appropriate resources based on skillset, ability, etc.). • Ability to conduct and/or support environment related discussions and offer guidance, feedback and evaluation support for various technical options that may be presented. • Considerable knowledge of IT development and support procedures, methods and practices. • Considerable knowledge of IT software development life cycles and implementation models. • Considerable knowledge of IT infrastructure requirements gathering techniques. • Considerable knowledge of IT Program Management techniques, such as work breakdown structures, scheduling, estimating, resource balancing and common Project Management tools. • Ability to recognize, analyze and provide solutions to difficult information technology problems. • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Con Edison IT and business staff. • Strong leadership skills.



• Thorough knowledge and experience with a broad range of information technologies including multi-tiered client-server computing environments, web technologies, networking technologies, operating systems, virtualization technologies, applications programming interfaces (and other integration techniques), relational database systems and software development, migration and batch scheduling tools.

Responsibilities: •Must have hands on experience with Windows client/server in a large corporate environment. •Must have scripting experience, Dot Net, PowerShell, VB Script. •Must be able to write SQL queries, SSIS packages and SSRS •Diagnose and resolve AMI application related performance issues, and present findings, resolutions, conclusions and other relevant detail to IT senior management. •Ensure the integrity and availability of the AMI related infrastructure, and develop strategies to minimize system downtime. Support Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery. •Perform system configuration, testing and system performance reviews. •Work with application vendor resources to identify forthcoming application patches and hotfixes. •Experience with Architecture planning, Documentation, and User administration. •Work with customer/user groups to identify bug and enhancement requests to be delivered to vendor(s). •Work with other Con Ed IT resources from groups such as application vendors, application support.


Physical Requirements: • Must have a valid driver’s license. • Must be able and willing to travel within Company service territory, as needed. • Must be able to participate in the Company’s emergency management processes and storm plans as required. • May be required to be fire warden for the office, or other office support tasks.

The successful candidates will be responsible for ensuring that the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) core applications are implemented on time and fully supported post-implementation. The candidates will be joining the AMI Application Support team, supporting the AMI Head End System (HES) and Meter Data Management System (MDMS). This position will be responsible for designing and supporting AMI system integrations and configurations for both Con Edison and Orange & Rockland systems. This posting is for multiple openings that will be based out of either 4 Irving Place, Manhattan or Spring Valley. The ideal candidate will have experience with the successful design, development, testing, and migration to long-term support for enterprise class applications. The candidate should have experience working closely with users to design and develop system interfaces, reports, and enhancements to facilitate new or existing business processes. Strong verbal and written communications skills are required. Full understanding of Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) processes and experience writing key SDLC documents is required. System Analyst (1H): Requires an Information Technology Associate’s Degree with minimum 2 years working in a related role. Preference will be given to those with a Bachelor’s Degree and experience in application development and support. Senior System Analyst (2L): Requires an Information Technology related Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 3 years applicable experience in a related field. Preference will be given to those candidates with experience in application development and support.



The selected candidates must be able to work independently and coordinate activities across multiple locations. This position is for openings in both Spring Valley and 4 Irving Place. Candidates may be required to report to either location on occasion, regardless of permanent reporting location. Final reporting location following the AMI project is to be determined, but candidates should understand that they may be based out of either Spring Valley or 4 Irving Place as required by the final application support plan. The core AMI applications are Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) products that will need to be configured and interfaced with existing systems. The candidate should have experience developing complex system interfaces, both point-to-point and via middleware, that follow best practices. The candidate should have experience designing and validating Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) processes and optimizing their performance. The AMI system will be responsible for processing large volumes of data with stringent performance requirements. The ideal candidate will have experience designing and implementing enterprise testing strategies both to validate proper system function (end-to-end) and performance (stress testing). The candidate should have experience working with vendors and legacy system owners to troubleshoot system issues and tune application performance concerns. Design and development of new reports and metrics will be a key project activity. The candidate should have experience working with users to define, specify, and implement complex reports. The candidate should be fluent in SQL, able to craft queries, and be well versed in database fundamentals. The candidate should be able to read and understand a database schema and data dictionary. The candidate should be well versed in Linux/Unix user commands. Having knowledge of Microsoft’s .NET application development platform and UC4 software is plus. Experience supporting Smart Meter related business processes such as billing, asset lifecycle management, meter testing/support, network monitoring/control, demand response, or outage management in a utility or regulated industry is desired. Prior experience supporting Orange & Rockland and/or Con Edison’s Work Management or Outage Management Systems is highly desired. For external applicants, experience with any of the following products is highly desired: Silver Spring Networks’ Utility IQ, Siemens/eMeter’s Energy IP Meter Data Management System, Oracle Utilities Network Management System, or Logica’s Work Management suite.

Responsibilities: Responsible for the technical support the AMI Head End System and Meter Data Management System (MDMS) and the integration of the MDMS with internal outage management and work management systems. In this capacity the candidate will work directly with the respective business subject matter experts to ensure that applications are implemented per design, schedule, and budget while adhering to Information Resources policies and standards. Works closely with business groups to gather functional requirements and translate them into technical specifications and detailed work estimates. Responsible for transitioning applications from project development to permanent production and will assume long-term application support responsibility following implementation. Assists AMI Systems Manager and AMI Project Director with ensuring that Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) applications are implemented in accordance within defined scope, satisfy functional and performance requirements, and are completed in accordance with project plan and schedules. Assists in ensuring that all phases of the project are completed successfully and in full compliance with Information Resources SDLC policies and requirements. Responsible for acting as the liaison between the project team/business stakeholders and Information Technology groups such as Middleware (BizTalk), Servers and Storage, Systems Assurance, Database Administration, Quality Assurance, System Architecture and Governance, Network Operations, and interfacing Application Support Teams. The candidate will support the installation, configuration, patching and upgrade of assigned applications. Will assist in the migration of application artifacts from development, to test, and to production and disaster recovery environments Works closely with System Infrastructure teams to configure servers, storage, and network access and support. Selected candidate will also work with business users, application developers, DBAs, and product vendors to diagnose and solve application errors and performance issues. Assists Technical Architecture, Database Administration, and Servers and Storage Operations groups with issues related to backup and restore, high availability, disaster recovery failovers, and performance issues. Candidates will also work with middleware and interfacing application teams to diagnose and solve integration issues. Supports application upgrade and lifecycle planning. Responsible for writing technical documentation and conducting technical presentations to all levels of management.
