Qualifications: The Law Departments Legal Services- General Litigation section is seeking to hire a Senior Attorney or Associate Counsel to join its team. The successful candidate must be energetic and demonstrate an unwavering commitment to our Code of Conduct and The Way We Work. Must demonstrate a high energy level and promote a positive work ethic and customer service mentality in support of our corporate values and mission. A Juris Doctor from an accredited Law School and New York State Bar Admission (or the ability to waive in) is required. Must possess excellent presentation, interpersonal, written and oral communication skills. The successful candidate for the Senior Attorney (band 63) title must possess a minimum of six years of relevant legal experience. For the Associate Counsel (band 64) a minimum of ten years relevant legal experience is required.




Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting other members of the Law Department in representing the Company before city, state and federal courts, arbitral tribunals, private mediations, and administrative agencies. Under the supervision of other attorneys (or with limited supervision for Associate Counsel Candidates), will perform litigation activities and other assigned matters involving the Company. Will conduct research and prepares legal memoranda for other attorneys. Will develop the facts through the interview of Company personnel and third parties, through document review, and through other fact-finding techniques, utilizing Company investigators and paralegals where appropriate. Drafts pleadings, motions, and discovery demands/responses. Participate in all stages of discovery, including but not limited to identifying, gathering and analyzing documents, conducting depositions, conducting site inspections. Prepare and argues motions. Appears and represents the Company at court conferences. Assist in providing general legal advice to client organizations. Represent the Company at hearings and trials in cases involving greater complexity and exposure, as appropriate. Provide any other legal service related to Company operations. Perform other related tasks and assignments as required. Manage a caseload of cases involving greater complexity and exposure brought on behalf of or against the Company. In addition to the above, applicants assuming the Associate Counsel title will prepare briefs and present oral arguments in State and Federal appellate courts. Select strategy for the overall handling of legal actions and proceedings and supervise other attorneys in the execution of tactical measures designed to achieve prompt and satisfactory resolution of litigated matters. Assist the General Counsel & General Attorney, the Associate Counsel and/or Assistant General Counsel in the training and supervision of junior attorneys in the handling of all legal matters, with special emphasis on cost-effectiveness and quality control.



Ensure implementation of Company safety, health and environmental programs for employees whose work is directed. Ensure that safe work practices are followed and the environment is fully protected in accordance with Company policy and governmental regulations. Qualifications: The Law Department’s Mass Torts & Workers Compensation Group is seeking an attorney with expertise in workers’ compensation and related employment matters. The position requires a J.D. Degree from an accredited Law School. Applicants must be an attorney, in good standing and admitted to practice law in New York State. Applicants for the Staff Attorney position must have three years of experience in handling NY State workers’ compensation legal and administrative issues before the New York State Workers’ Compensation Board. Applicants for the Sr. Staff Attorney must have six years of the above referenced experience. Must possess excellent presentation, interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.

Provide legal counsel and training on all workers’ compensation matters to in-house clients, outside counsel and the company’s third-party administrator. Provide oversight of the Company’s third-party administrator and outside counsel. Draft appeals, briefs, and legal memoranda on complex high-exposure claims and/or review and edit the work of outside counsel. Review and respond to requests for third party settlements. Sr. Attorney applicants should be proficient in calculating Kelly and Burns liens and offsets. Prepare cases for claim reviews with third-party administrator and client organizations. Identify and prepare Company witnesses for testimony at administrative hearings. Ensure compliance with New York State Workers’ Compensation laws and regulations, including self-insurance requirements. Perform other related tasks and assignments as required.
