Qualifications: Central Construction is looking to recruit highly motivated, industrious and resourceful individuals to join the Central Construction team as Chief Construction Inspector. The successful candidates must be self-starters, responsible, articulate, and able to exercise good judgment and render sound business decisions. Knowledge of and experience with environmental laws and regulations, and OSHA rules and regulations for construction, to ensure environmental, health and safety compliance is required. Must demonstrate a positive work ethic in support of the Corporate Values and Mission, and be able to work toward meeting the department goals and Key Performance Indicators. Strong oral and written communication skills as well as good interpersonal skills is required to effectively interact with internal and external customers, including contractors, regulatory officials, community representatives. In addition, the candidates must have the flexibility to handle multiple assignments and ensure that project schedules and budgets are maintained. Familiarity with and the ability to read, interpret, apply and enforce Con Edison’s drawings, specifications, and procedures is required. Knowledge/experience in contract administration, contract and material procurement and permitting processes and procedures is required. A Bachelor’s degree and 3 years work experience, or H.S. Diploma/GED and 5 years work experience in the construction management field is required. Must be computer literate and have a working knowledge of Microsoft office products, Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Project. Selected candidates will be required to take and pass the courses mandated for this position and other training such as asbestos monitor, lead competency, work permits and incident command when necessary.



Bachelor degree in engineering is preferred.

Responsibilities: The Chief Construction Inspector (CCI) plans, directs, and supervises the activities of contractors performing various types of projects for Transmission, Substations, Generating Stations, Facilities and Remediation Construction. Ensures that all work is performed in strict compliance with all the applicable company specifications, standards, and procedures as well as all regulatory requirements. Acts as the Construction Supervisor or as an individual inspector on these projects and will have the major field responsibility for seeing them through to successful completion. Conducts field inspections to ensure that all company facilities are protected, supported and maintained in accordance with all engineering specifications. Must be totally familiar with all of the contract bid requirements/documents, and must interface with design, engineering, purchasing and estimating to obtain any required information and to resolve and correct technical, field or contract issues. Monitors all project costs and provides timely and accurate data and documentation required for contractor payments. Keeps accurate records, utilizing daily logbooks and computers, and provides data for monthly accrual requirements, schedule tracking and change order work. Ensures that all contract changes are processed in accordance with the Contract Administration Manual, and that all contractor performance is reported through the Contractor Oversight System. Negotiates with contractors and customers to reach fair resolutions. Maintains a flow of communication with peers and superiors and advises them immediately of any potential problems, extras, damages, injuries, or incidents with either regulatory officials or the public. Ensures that all company-supplied equipment or materials are ordered and delivered in sufficient time to meet the project schedules. Ascertains that contractors are manning the projects properly, and if not, take the necessary steps to ensure that they are. Reports all infractions as required by procedure and regulations to managers. Takes proactive action to ensure that all work is performed with the goal of zero injuries, and to minimize the potential for any environmental or community problems. Treats all regulatory and/or enforcement officials and public representatives with courtesy and professionalism, and ensures that their inquiries and requests are addressed fairly.

Physical Requirements: Position requires a valid driver's license to travel between various work locations within the Co Ed service territory. Position requires use of a personal vehicle on a mileage basis if no company vehicles are available. Position requires walking and climbing and candidates must be able to wear the proper PPE. Working nights, weekends, and holidays is also required.

Responsibilities: The Chief Construction Inspector (CCI) ensures that safe work practices are followed and the environment is fully protected in accordance with company policy and governmental regulations. The CCI supervises the work effort of Construction Representatives and Inspectors engaged in all aspects of contract administration and inspection with an emphasis on Gas construction projects. Assures that all contractor work is performed in a timely and efficient manner and in accordance with established Company standards and specifications. Ensures that the contractor’s methods of work conform to local, state and federal regulations. Assures all contractor work is conducted within the stipulations required by applicable NYC permits, and minimizes quality of life issues for the community we serve. Tracks and controls project costs, ensures work accruals are completed in a timely and accurate manner. Researches new methods of performing work, improving quality and increasing productivity. Physical Requirements: Position requires walking, standing, and climbing. Will be required to work various schedules, including weekend and nights. Must be able to work in extreme hot and cold climates. Must be able to respond to emergencies and be medically approved to wear a half face respirator. Must have welding knowledge in API1104 OR B31.1 welding codes or have attended classes in a certified welding school. Must be able to complete and achieve welding qualification in down-hand API1104 and B31.1 welding codes. Must possess burning license and fireguard certification. Must maintain all license certifications. Upon successful completion of welding school, the candidate must be able to fabricate piping from layouts, blueprints and mechanical drawings. Must be able to interpret welding specifications, standards and procedures and work unsupervised to complete assignments. Must be able to perform welding tasks and various mechanical duties on live steam, gas and electric facilities. The nature of this job requires an individual to be familiar with all types of elevator equipment: Otis, Peelle, Thompson and MCE. Knowledge of hoist cable replacement is a must. Must be able to read electrical schematics, prints, and drawings. Candidate must know the theory and workings of AC and DC motors, basic circuits, series circuits, parallel circuits, motors and generators. Must be able to use a multi-meter, mega and micrometers to test equipment and circuits. Strong trouble-shooting skills a must. Must understand brakes, their adjustment and timing. Must understand bearings, theory and proper lubrication. Must have or be willing to obtain QEI inspector certification, NYC private elevator inspector license, and NYC asbestos handler's license. Will be required to perform standard OSHA inspections and maintenance functions on elevators, cranes and hoists. Candidates must have a high school diploma or GED. Physical Requirements: Selected candidate must be capable of lifting 45-60 pounds, work in confined spaces and possess a valid driver's license. Must be able to walk, climb, and stand extensively, and must be medically approved to wear a respirator and all required protective equipment. Selected candidates must be able to work a rotating shift and may be required to work overtime and off hour shifts, as needed. Must be comfortable with height.

Responsibilities: The Sr. Specialist ensures that safe work practices are followed and the environment is fully protected in accordance with company policy and government regulations. Will review construction documents, prepare pre engineering studies, review and submit comments on plans and specifications, prepare special conditions, and conduct contractor field visits for new bid-packages. The Sr. Specialist will coordinate activities between the CCI, Construction Inspectors, and contractors. Serve as liaison between support organizations and customers to resolve project issues, expenditures, and control budget cost. Ensures contract documents specifications, plans, and eHasp are being adhered to. Track interprets and communicates the project schedule to various levels of management including executives; Will maintain internal and external communications to ensure timely completion of all projects. Prepares and conducts presentations on projects to executives, management and union personnel. Identifies plans, develops, and implements new ideas to improve process flow, reduce costs, reduce operation risk, and enhance customer service reliability. Will ensure the goals of the organization and the Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) for the department are met.
