Qualifications: Substations Protective Systems Testing is looking for a self-motivated, resourceful and articulate candidate to join its Technical Applications Group as an Associate Engineer (1H) or Engineer (2L). The successful candidate requires work experience in any of the following areas: Power System, Relay Protection, Microprocessor based relays. Must demonstrate the ability to learn and apply new topics. Must have strong computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and VISIO. Preferred knowledge on Doble Protest /Protection Suite and various relay software. Must be able to deliver exemplary customer service and develop a team spirited work environment in support of Con Edison’s corporate values and mission. Must possess superior oral and written communication skills, champion change and have the ability to influence others in order to improve the management process. Must be well organized, detailed oriented, flexible to handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines. Must be able to exercise independent judgment and possess the ability to render sound business decisions.



For the Associate Engineer (1H): Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, preferably Electrical Engineering, and two years of relevant work experience.
For the Engineer (2L): Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, preferably Electrical Engineering, and minimum 3 years’ experience working on various relay systems.

Responsibilities: The Engineer is directly responsible to develop operational and maintenance test instructions for relays. Develop test plan for microprocessor relays. Provide necessary training for relay technicians. Acts as technical liaison between Central Engineering and various groups. Develop capital project justification. Evaluate maintenance practices and develop more efficient and reliable methods. Review and comment on Engineering design concept for relays and relay upgrades. Industry involvement with EPRI, NATF and other organizations on relay applications. Familiarize with all the NERC CIP standards Interfaces with designated organizations and departments at O&R and CECONY, and with service vendors and contractors, to achieve sustainable compliance with NERC CIP requirements. Make presentations as required, and at the executive level. Perform other related assignments as required. Lead and develop written evaluation of system disturbances and coordination with Engineering and submit ESR.


Physical Requirements: Must have a valid driver's license. This position may require local and out-of-town travel and representation of the Company at information exchange meetings including EPRI and NATF. Must be able and willing to travel within Company service territory, as needed. Must be willing and available to be on call, work off shifts, weekends, holidays and overtime as operating and system conditions require.

Qualifications: Substations Operations Protective Systems Testing in Staten Island, NY is looking for Electrical Technicians (Local 3) to perform testing, troubleshooting and repairs on protective relays and systems, substation equipment, control systems and telephone lines in substations and other field locations. Candidates for this position must possess a minimum of an Associate's Degree in Electrical Technology, or related field of study or a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, or related field of study or candidates having completed two-year United States military academic programs including Nuclear Electronics Technician, Nuclear Electrician, and Aviation Electronics Technician are welcome. Candidate must have a HS diploma or GED.



Candidates must have a strong knowledge of basic AC and DC electrical power theory and circuit analysis, including three phase AC power systems, as well as a strong working knowledge of mathematics and the ability to perform calculations involving basic trigonometry and vector analysis. Candidates must have knowledge and experience with computer systems and must be able to use these skills to perform automated testing, as well as prepare spreadsheets and technical reports. Candidates must also possess excellent verbal and written communications skills. All candidates will be required to pass both a written placement exam and structured interview for the PST Electrical Technician position.

Responsibilities: The nature of this job requires extensive walking, climbing, and standing, and the ability to push, pull, and lift equipment and materials weighing up to 60 lbs. Candidates must be able and willing to work in various weather and station conditions, including heat, noise, and in confined spaces. Candidates must be able and willing to work with, and in the vicinity of high voltage and other high-energy systems.

Physical Requirements:

Candidates must also be able and willing to safely climb ladders and work on top of elevated platforms and equipment, as well as in manholes below grade. A valid driver's license and personal vehicle for daily use on Company business is required. This position may require working various shifts and overtime to meet job schedules.
